To prepare for boot camp is to give yourself the best possible chance at making it through one of the toughest ordeals that any person will go through. USMC basic training is one of the hardest tests of physical and mental toughness out there, and if you go in cold, without proper preparation, the odds are you’ll fail. Here are some great tips you can use to help you make it through and graduate a United States Marine.
1) Being in average, or even better than average shape, is not good enough.
When you get to camp, if you aren’t in top fitness, the drill instructors will get you into top fitness, and the last thing you want is a USMC drill instructor whipping you into shape. Research the minimum fitness requirements and make sure you can exceed them easily well before you actually head to basic training.
2) Learn the knowledge parts in before you go.
There is book learning and memorization to be done in boot camp too. There is a whole host of information that any would-be Marine needs to commit to memory. Luckily, this information is almost all available to the public, and as such, it would be almost insane not to study up on this material before you head to camp. Why give the instructors one more thing to yell at you about when you could already have it memorized when you get there?
3) The Drill Instructors are there to break you, and if you let them, they will.
When you head to boot camp you need to understand that one of the most important jobs a Drill Instructor has is to make sure that only the best make it to graduation and become Marines. If you don’t have the mental toughness to stick it through and make it your goal to ensure the Drill Instructors can’t break you, you’re doomed. Get your head in exactly the right place before you get to camp.
