ARE TATTOOS STILL TABOO AT WORK?

Tattoos may be viewed as a negative thing by some, but in reality, they can still cause people to feel uncomfortable. This is partly due to the prejudices surrounding them. Tattooed people can have less opportunities in the workplace than others, especially when it comes to their careers. Although there have been many improvements in this area, the fact that people with tattoos may be treated less seriously is still a problem.

Some studies show that tattoos can influence the decision of hiring someone. If the job involves public interaction, many people believe that tattoos should not be visible as the client may not like them and it could have a negative effect on the business. This means that even if someone has no problem with tattoos, they will not hire the candidate who is tattooed. The fact that someone has tattoos will inevitably put them in a lower position than others.

The Type of Tattoo Is Important as Well.

It is another matter if we are discussing offensive tattoos. In this situation, tattoos containing hate, negative messages or offensive words are not acceptable. A tattoo of this kind should not cause any problems when you are looking for work.

Sectors Must Also Be Considered.

Tattoos are more acceptable in some sectors, like the youth clothing industry and leisure industries. Others, like the banking, education, or aeronautics sectors, are still resistant. Tattoos are not a measure of professionalism, and should not be used to determine a person’s career.

Talent is lost when companies reject applicants because of tattoos. A person with a tattoo does not measure their skills. The day companies and professionals hire tattooed individuals, tattoos will become more accepted and normalized.

You can get inspiration from Pinterest and Instagram accounts if you are thinking about getting a tattoo, but still haven’t decided on the design. You can also book an appointment if you know exactly what tattoo you want.
