– It is an indicator that shows the amount of fat present in the body of a person.
– It is also used by Doctors to show the level of risk associated with a weight related disease.

It is okay for the facts now. The question many ask is, how to use it. Don’t worry much. Just relax. Here is a step-by step guide. Are you happy now?

How To Calculate Body Mass Index

Step 1: Look for a scale to measure your weight in pounds.
Step 2: Get a way of measuring your height too
Step 3: Convert your measured height into inches by using the following mathematical relationship; 12 inches=1 foot. E.g.: if your height is 5feet 6 inches, then your height=5*12+6=60+6=66 inches. Can you get that conversion?
Step 4: Substitute the measured values into the following body mass index formular;
BMI=Weight(in pounds)*703/height squared(in inches)

Let’s look at the example below to illustrate how this is done:

Assuming someone has a weight of 200 pounds and a height of 5 feet 5 inches, the BMI for that person is: BMI=200*703/65*65 inches.

BMI=140600/4225
BMI=33.3

What a simple calculation. It is as easy as ABC. Even if you do not go to school you should be able to do this. Now, note this. A person with the above calculated value would be said to be obese. Can you see how the body mass index is used? Knowing this would alert the person to quickly find solutions to his excessive fat problems and prevents him from having other weight related diseases.
